Influential Factors of Air Content in RCC

Influence on air content in roller compacted concrete (RCC) was analyzed by experiments. The influencing factors are hardness of water, adding order of air entraining admixture (AEA), kind and dosage of AEA, set retarding super plasticizer and content of rock powder. Test results show that when the hardness of water in construction sites was increased, bubbling potential of AEA would be affected, along with reduce of air content of RCC. In comparison with the soft water of the hardness of 132. 14mg/L, medium hardness water with the hardness of 156. 33mg/L was able to reduce 0. 95% of air content of RCC. Air content was increased when AEA is added after high efficiency water reducing agents with retardation setting. Effect of air entraining of rosin AEA was generally good and that of synthetic detergents and saponin AEA were less effective. If dosage of AEA was increased within a certain limits, air content of RCC would raise. Dosage of high efficiency water reducing agents with retardation setting ranged rom 0.6% to 1.0%, its VC value reduced from 10.1s to 4.6s. Air content firstly increased, before gradual reduce. When rock powder of crushed sands was increased, effect of air entraining of would be reduced. When content of rock flour increased by 1% air content would reduce by 0.1%.
