Research on Thermal Stress and Temperature Control of Roller Compacted Concrete Dam
Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) technology has been used for more than 20 years in China, and till now, great achievements and much experience have been achieved. However, the cracking of RCC dams is still a problem to be fully solved. Based on properties of materials, construction conditions, characteristics of temperature field and thermal stress, this paper introduces simulation analysis method, the development of RCC technology, detailed requirements of RCC dam and things that shall be paid attention to during the construction period. By Summarized from some completed projects, some useful measures to prevent cracks in RCC gravity dams and arch dams are also introduced, such as setting joints, pre-cooling of aggregates, pipe cooling, surface insulation, inclinedlayer placing, using MgO-mixed concrete and high crack-resistance materials.
