Research on the Effect of Cooling Pipe of RCC Gravity Dam

In this paper, combining practical project, the well- known FEM software was combined with the 3D FEM professional program on temperature control to carry out the simulation of temperature field and thermal stress field on power house monolith of some roller compacted concrete gravity dam during construction period and operating period. According to the three- dimensional finite element simulation calculation on the temperature and stress field of RCC dam with different schemes on a practical project, research has been done on the distribution of temperature field and stress field in dam with pipe cooling and quantitative analysis has been done on the effect of pipe cooling on the temperature field and stress field of dam. The result indicated that using cooling pipe in some parts of dam with high temperature can improve the distribution of temperature in dam, also can eliminate peak temperature and lower temperature. This study provides the practical referencing value on the temperature controlling in the desn and construction of concrete gravity dam.
