Dynamic Analysis on Nongling RCC Gravity Dam by Considering the Effect of Infinite Foundation Radiation Damping
Vibration in infinite foundation is a key problem of Semitic analysis on concrete dams. Presently, the traditional model of fixed boundary with massless foundation (Clough boundary) is often adopted, and the radiation damping of foundation and the inhomogeneity input of wave-motion could not be taken into account though this model has its merits. In order to overcome the defect of traditional methods, the different artificial boundaries (including Clough boundary, transmitting boundary and visco-elasticity boundary) are put on the Nongling RCC gravity dam in this paper. The dynamic response of the dam is carried out by time-domain finite element method, and the computation precision of each artificial boundary is also examed by the result of large-scale boundary respectively. The dynamic response is lower 20 - 30 % for Clough boundary when considering the effect of foundation radiation damping, it illustrates that the effect of foundation radiation damping is not ignorantable.
