Study and Application of New RCC Sand Production Technology

This paper discusses the quality of sand for roller- compacted concrete (RCC), particularly the effect of fine particle content in sand on the RCC performance, such as compressive strength, split tensile strength, fracture toughness property, apparent density, VC value, homogeneousness, compactability, liquefactive bleeding, binding of lifts, impermeability, adiabatic temperature rise, and the paper recommends the ideal quality indicators of the RCC sand made of different rocks. Aiming at the ideal quality indicators of the RCC sand, the paper introduces a new and environment- friendly sand-producing technology featured by energy-saving, consumption reducing, pollution discharge decreasing and different from the traditional technology, which is to adopt the vertical-shaft impact-type crusher with new design parameters for independently sand producing with dry method in closed environment and with strict dust collection and dust prevention measures. The producing process is completed in the factory in assembling-mode and automatically controlled by computer program. The paper also demonstrates the crushing mechanism, mathematic modeling, basis and scope of technical parameter adjustment and technologic combinations of independent sand producing by vertical-shaft impact- type crusher, and describes the result of preliminarily application of the technology at Silin, Dahua, Suofengying and Guangzhao hydropower stations. Both the theoretical analysis and engineering practice indicate that the technology, equipment and techno-economic indicators of the new RCC sand producing technology are superior and in conformity to the industrial policies of energy-saving, consumption reducing, pollution discharge decreasing reiterated by the state, and the finished sand is of high grade. This technology shows the way for sand/gravel production in future.
