Study on the Reserved Blocks Made with Roller Compacted Concrete Technique for Flood Control
Silt in downstream of the Yellow River is fine, and its hard to be construction material directly. Millions of cubic meters rock material for flood control needs to be prepared before flood season each year on the lower Yellow River. Due to the limitation of rock material exploitation and high transportation cost, project of man-made reserved bricks was put forward by Flood Control Office of YRCC. Based on the analysis for properties of sediment in the Yellow River, taking natural silt in river channel and industry waste as principal raw material, material prescription of reserved block was put forward. Reserved blocks were constructed and manufactured on site through applying molding technique of Roller Compacted Concrete. The reserved blockks could be cut in any size, and individual big weight of each one can be ensured. Problem of root stone losing in rush repairing for flood control was effectively solved through applying this technique. The durability and mechanical properties of reserved blocks were tested. And result indicates that reserved blocks could satisfy requirements of rush repair in flood control after one month natural curing. And reserved blocks have been applied in the rush repair in flood season of 2006.
