CONVERGENCE PROBLEM IN NUMERICAL-ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR MAIN CABLE SYSTEM OF SUSSPENSION BRIDGE
It is proved theoretically in this work that the cable segment state equation has no solution in some cases. Emphasized is that the convergent path in the numerical-analytical approach should be searched in the iterative calculations for main cables subjected to dead load in application stage at design reference temperature. By application of the numerical- analytical approach in the main or side span calculations for the main cables subject to the dead load in service at the designed reference temperature, there would be no solution obtained sometimes. Hence, a search algorithm with the penalty factor is introduced to improve the old numerical- analytical approach. The formula for determining the proper value of the penalty factor is derived. An iterative procedure with the high accuracy and speed is established. A testing example is given at the end of this paper in which the improved method is effective while the unimproved method cant convergence.
