RESEARCH ON FLEXURAL RIGIDITY OF CORRODED REINFORCED CONCRETE RECTANGLE BEAM

The degradation of bond between steel bar and concrete due to corrosion is the major influencing factor to decrease flexural rigidity of reinforced concrete (RC) rectangle beam. The mechanism of bond of the plain steel bar and the deformed steel bar is different. 37 RC rectangle beams with various rate of reinforcement, including 21 beams with plain steel bar and 16 with deformed steel bar, were made in the laboratory. Their manufacturing process was expatiated. The design basis of the accelerated electrochemistry corrosion test (AECT) and the static experimental program for these RC beams was also introduced. The deflections of RC rectangle beams with different rusty scale thickness during static test were collected. The influence of the rusty scale thickness on flexural rigidity was analyzed according to experimental results. The effect of the reinforcement type on flexural rigidity of corroded RC rectangle beams was presented. The deflection of these RC rectangle beams under the different load levels was omputed based on General Code for Design of Highway Bridges and Culverts (JTG D62-2004 in China). An equation for degradation coefficient of flexural rigidity was proposed by comparing computed with measured results. A computing method on flexural rigidity of corroded reinforced concrete (RC) rectangle beam in the highway RC bridge was further proposed. This work can present reference for evaluation of the durability of existing highway RC bridge.
