MECHANISM ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOR OF INCLINED CABLE IN SERVICE
In view of the fact that inclined cables are primary load-carrying members of cable-stayed bridges, the accuracy of the method to determine cable state is a key issue to ensure safety of the existing bridges. As those are typical cable characteristics that steel cables are susceptible to corrosion and tend to stress relaxation after long term service, it is essential to take those damage characteristics into account in structural analysis to obtain actual behavior of cable in service. By introducing Lemaitres equivalent-strain principle and geometrical damage theory in this paper, the corrosion mechanism of cable is described. A convergence iterative solution for inclined cable is formulated after solving the boundary problem with the governing differential equation of the in-service cable. With the approach in the paper, the effect of cable damage characteristics has been taken into consideration, which leads to good precision and can meet the engineering requirements in the analysis of existing long-span cable structures.
