OVERALL STABILTY ANALYSIS OF CIRCLE-CASTELLATED BEAMS
The stability of castellated beams will decline because of lateral perforations. The existing formulas for overall stability of I-beam with solid web are adopted along with appropriate adjustments of the related stiffness to calculate the critical moments at torsion-flexural buckling of castellated beams with circular openings. And finite element analyses are made for verification. The results from two approaches are close to each other, indicating the analytical method can be used to predict the overall stability of castellated beams. The influences of load type, load position, geometry parameters of openings on overall stability are discussed. The critical moment in case of central concentrated load at bottom flange is much larger than that in case of uniformly distributed load at top flange of whole span. The critical buckling moments will decrease as the ratios of both opening depth and span to section depth increase.
