A POD-BASED MODAL IDENTIFICATION METHOD FOR CABLE-NET STRUCTURES UNDER WIND EXCITATION
Vibration-based structural health monitoring usually needs to extract dynamic characteristics from vibration measurements. The peak picking (PP) method in frequency domain is a simplest and much popular technique for performing such tasks. However, this method is usually invalid in identifying dense and high order modes. To solve this problem, it is a good idea to decompose the output-only data into components which are dominated by only one mode firstly. Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) method provides an effective way to do such things. In this paper, a flat cable-net structure has been chosen as a case study. Basing on the finite element model (FEM), the real modal parameters and the output data are both obtained. Then the PP technique and the POD- based method are respectively performed to identify the modal parameters. The result shows that the PP technique only can identify the low order modal parameters effectively. After combined with the pre- processing of POD technique, the PP method can obtain high order modal parameters accurately. It indicates that the POD-based modal identification method provided in the article is a valid way to extract the dense and high order modes of the civil engineering structures.
