EVALUATION OF DYNAMIC VEHICLE AXLE LOADS ON BRIDGES OF DIFFERENT SURFACE CONDITIONS
In this paper, the vehicle-bridge interaction and the dynamic load allowance are studied with an evolutionary spectral method. The input is separated into two independent parts, a deterministic one induced by the vehicle weight and a random one induced by the road surface undulation. Each part is calculated separately using the Runga-Kutta method. A numerical example of a 4-DOF vehicle model travelling on a simply supported beam is computed. Four classes of road surface roughness are used in this example. The results show that the response induced by the road surface undulation is significant. The dynamic load allowance is not a simple function of the road surface roughness or vehicle speed. Rather it has a complex relationship with the properties of the bridge and vehicle.
