EVALUATING THE BRIDGE HEALTH CONDITION WITH FUZZY REASONING METHOD

During the actual operation process, the existing bridges may be damaged due to many reasons. In order to assure the safety of the bridges, it is necessary to use effective methods to evaluate the health conditions of existing structures. The Analytic Hierarchy Process approach is usually applied to the bridge state assessment. But, it can not reflect the uncertainty and fuzziness of the elements. In order to help making decisions for the bridge management department, we introduced a fuzzy inference for bridge condition assessment. Based on the fuzzy rules, we gained the fuzzy rules anthology of assessment. The sigmoid membership function is used to calculate the grade of the input items. Then, we implement a fuzzy inference for calculations based on the fuzzy rules. Finally, a health indication and a comprehensive assessment of bridge condition is given according to the inference results. The proposed method is compared with the weight evaluation method and fuzzy comprehensive method as an example. The result shows that adopted fuzzy theory can resolve the particularly linguistic target index and avoid the calculation of weight; using the fuzzy inference can possibly cut down the artificial elements. If the fuzzy rulers are reasonable and accurate, the fuzzy inference method can yield appropriate outcomes. The proposed method provides a feasible method for bridge condition assessment in future.
