A NEW APPROACH TO EVALUATE CHLORIDE INVADING CHARACTER BASED ON CHLORIDE PROFILES
Chloride diffusion coefficient derived from chloride profiles is an important tool in durability design and lifespan prediction in de-icing salt and marine environments. In different elements, different periods and different environments, the forms and meanings of chloride profiles are different. The manner in fitting of chloride diffusion coefficient is discussed reliance on construction date. The significant variations in chloride ingress that can be observed in a single structure make accurate quantification of remaining service life difficult. It is not reasonable to use the apparent surface concentration as main coefficient to evaluate chloride invading character in drying-wetting cycle environment. An approach using interface of convection zone and diffusion zone as the diffusion surface, and using the chloride concentration in this interface as concentration of diffusion surface is suggested to evaluate invading character of chloride ion and predict lifespan of concrete structure.
