DEVELOPMENT OF COMMON DATA STRUCTURE FOR THE LIFE-CYCLE COST ESTIMATION OF STEEL PLATE GIRDER BRIDGES

A prototype of common data structure is developed for the reliability based life-cycle cost (LCC) estimation of steel plate girder bridges in this study. The detail information items of LCC estimation processes are categorized into cost information, cost variable information, and reliability analysis information. 3-D shape-based and object-oriented information model for steel bridges is adopted to provide the physical quantities such as volume, maximum moment and shear force of each bridge member. The LCCs of two steel plate girder bridges are estimated based on the time-variant structural reliability analysis considering corrosion and live load effects for the verification of the proposed data structure. It is expected that the developed common data structure can be effectively used to construct the database which can calibrate and evaluate the uncertainty parameters in LCC estimations. In addition, the proposed data structure can allow the reliability-based approach for LCC analysis to be implemented in the existing bridge management systems (BMS).
