COMPARATIVE STUDY ON CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF PLAIN AND DEFORMED BARS IN CONCRETE
Corrosion of reinforcement bar results in its sectional area reduction, the mechanical property degradation, the cover cracking, and the bond decrease, so the durability of the reinforced concrete (RC) structure can be decreased. For different type reinforcement bars, their corrosion ratio and mechanism are not same under adverse environmental attack. The RC beams with various bar diameters are made in the laboratory. Accelerated corrosion on them was performed. 96 reinforcement bar samples with various corrosion levels are obtained from these beams. Their mechanical properties, including the yield strength, the ultimate tensile strength, and the elongation are tested. The corrosion characters for two types of reinforcement bars, i.e. plain bar and deformed bar, was anlyzed. Combining with the experimental data of existing literatures, the regression equations of the mechanical properties of two types reinforcement bars are established, separately.
