MICROWAVE INTERFEROMETER FOR STATIC MEASUREMENTS ON CIVIL ENGINEERING STRUCTURES: THE CASE-STUDY OF A DAM
Nowadays static monitoring of structures is performed mainly using contact sensor networks that need the installation on the structure of the sensors themselves or of proper targets to be measured by an external instrument. In the paper, principles and application of a non-contact radar system, named TBIS-L, designed for static monitoring of large structures, are presented. The radar, based on interferometric and wide band waveform principles, is able to measure at the same time the displacements of several points of a structure with accuracy of the order of tenth of millimetres. The results of a static survey performed on a dam are also presented: the survey had the aim to measure the movements of the crowning of the dam due to temperature changes.
