TEST STUDY ON THE BEARING CAPACITY OF LIGHT GAUGE STEEL FLOOR

In order to study the actual bearing capacity of light gauge steel floors composed of ordinary planar gridirons, and to reveal the extent of influence of thin steel decks on the stress and deflections of the steel beams, and the interaction between the main beams and secondary beams, comparison study methods were adopted to the field tests and computer analysis. A floor constructed with light gauge steel beams and thin steel decks were tested under staged loading, the strains and deflections of the main beams were measured and recorded. And finite element software, ANSYS, was used to conduct the simulation analysis. The study shows that the sheet steel decks can considerably increase beams bearing capacity and their torsional stiffness largely affect their flexural deformation. The result is of great value both in the design of this type of light gauge structure and in monitoring the service of such existing structures.
