APPLICATION OF CURVATURE MODE TO DAMAGE IDENTIFICATION
The advantages and shortcomings of curvature mode for damage detection in frame structures is discussed using frame structure as an example. With different locations and degrees of damages considered in columns based on numerical simulation, an improved modal assurance criterion is proposed. Damage location can be detected more accurately and reasonably by simultaneously using both methods. And the result indicates that the first curvature mode is an excellent parameter used as the input vector. Finally, the proposed damage detection method is verified by using modal test of a small scale model of steel frame with two stories, and the result of damage detection using the proposed method is shown to be fairly effective.
