BRIDGE STRUCTURE HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM BASED ON 3D GIS

Geographical Information System (GIS) is a computer system for capturing, storing, managing, and analyzing spatial data. GIS has been applied in many areas to deal the geographic distribution of spatial features, such as natural resources management, land use management, urban planning, calamity monitoring and others. Currently, most of the GIS applications are based on two-dimensional (2D) vector data or images and are weak in handling three-dimensional (3D) spatial information. Although structural health monitoring information for bridges can be partially managed by 2D GIS, it would be much more efficient with a 3D GIS. This paper presents a design of structural health monitoring and management system for bridges based on 3D GIS. A discussion on the implementation of the design and analyze of the technique are also presented.
