Study on Groundwater Over-withdrawal Reduction in the North China Plain

摘要：

Groundwater over-pumping is widespread in the South- North Water Diversion Projects Beneficiary Region and continues for more than twenty years. The great water diversion project will increase water availability of the North China and provide historical opportunities for the solution of severe groundwater over-pumping. Based on the groundwater over-withdrawal reduction planning conducted by the Ministry of Water Resources, groundwater over-pumping status, induced ecological issues, possibility of over-pumping reduction are discussed. Major difficulties for the solution of groundwater over- pumping are analyzed and measures are briefed.
