APPLICATION OF VIRTUAL INSTRUMENT TECHNIQUE IN WAVE FIELD OBSERVATION

Field observations for measuring wind and wave elements at Bohai sea were carried out. The data acquisition system is based on virtual instrumentation, which minimizes the use of enormous hardware involved in the controllers and instrumentation panels. The system mainly consists of sensors, NI USB-6009 data acquisition card and an IBM laptop, on which the software of LabVIEW is running. The user can monitor and process the collected data with the friendly interface. The proposed system is portable, flexibable, transplantable, and expandable.The description of the instrument settings, hardware specifications, and data processing software of the developed system is included in this paper.
