VELOCITY MEASUREMENT IN SURF ZONE BY MULTI-COLORED PTV

A measurement technique based on multi-colored particle tracking is presented to quantitatively visualize the flow field in surf zone. The technique provides an effort-less way to grasp the flow structure extended over a large domain under periodic waves. The measurement is optimized to increase the number of trackable particles and avoid the particle mismatching on the basis of probabilistic analysis. The measurement results show reasonable distributions of wave orbital velocity as well as mean velocity components inside surf zone. The measurement accuracy is confirmed through comparison of results with ADV.
