WAVE OVERTOPPING ON A GENTLE SLOPE SEAWALL WITH A SUBMERGED BREAKWATER

Wave overtopping rates were measured in laboratory scale experiment. The major characteristics of wave overtopping over a system consisting of a submerged breakwater and a gentle slope seawall were investigated. Wave propagation and breaking was modeled by using a three-dimensional Large Eddy Simulation (LES). The overtopping rates calculated by the model are compared with results obtained by the laboratory experiment. It was found that the simulation is not quantitatively satisfactory yet, but qualitatively describes the characteristics well.
