NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF TYPHOON WIND AND STORM SURGE WITH CONSIDERATION OF SUPER GRADIENT WIND (SGW)

Numerical simulations of typhoon storm surge were carried out. Super gradient wind (SGW) is considered in the study by using the Mitsuta and Fujii’s model or the Holland’s model in order to consider the effect of very strong wind around typhoon center. By the study, we obtained following conclusions. (1). According to the wind measurement results, SGW was shown around typhoon center. (2). By consideration of SGW, the computed results of wind velocity around typhoon center show good results compare to conventional way. (3). Then computed storm surge height by the modified models agrees well to observed ones. (4). It is shown that the wind field with good accuracy is very important to get good results of typhoon storm surge height.
