THE WINTER SEASON TIDAL CURRENT CHARACTERISTICS AT HAN RIVER ESTUARY OF KYUNGGI BAY
Han River Estuary is located at the middle of the western coast of Korea, and tidal currents were measured at this estuary during the winter season for the investigation of characteristics of tidal currents propagation. The results of correlation analysis show 1- dimensional flows in which the characteristic of tidal current are changed along the Yeumha Waterway. Especially, tidal asymmetry by comparing axial velocity as a function of water level shows that the feature of standing wave is apparent following the upstream direction. The tidal current data is analyzed statistically. This indicates that ebb current velocity would be great unlike tide harmonic constants of relative phase 4 2 2 M M . The duration of ebb current is increased by analyzing between slack time and slack time into the estuary. Exactly Han River estuaries have ebb currents that are stronger and longer than flood currents. Residual currents are controlled by river discharge in spite of winter season a little freshwater.
