CHARACTERISTICS OF SEDIMENT TRANSPORT AND TOPOGRAPHY CHANGE OF THE MIXED SAND AND GRAVEL BEACH
Field measurements were carried out on two beaches composed of mixed sand and gravel to investigate the spatial distributions of bet material and topography change. It is found that difference of transport direction between fine sand and coarse material causes sorting of grain size in cross-shore direction. Numerical simulations are also done to reproduce the measured responses of beach profile. A so-called SBEACH model was extended to simulate sorting process of the bed materials in the cross-shore direction due to difference of transport direction between fine and coarse materials and topography change. Simulated topographies gave qualitative explanation for the observed one by field measurements.
