STUDY ON SIMILARITY OF COASTAL MOBILE BED MODEL AND COMPARISON OF MODEL SANDS
Similarity theory for coastal mobile bed model (CMBM) proposed by Kamphuis etc. In 70s~80s of the last century, denied using lightweight sands as model sands. In this paper, it is discussed in detail. By means of 2D and 3D model tests with various kinds of model sands including lightweight sands and natural sands, and through further study on similarity of CMBM, author has proved that the lightweight sands such as coal sand and phenolic sand can be utilized in the 3D coastal process models successfully and efficiently. However, if the lightweight sands employed in CMBM are too light or too fine (such as wood sand and fine phenolic powder), or the model waves applied are too strong, the characters of particle movement and the sediment processes will change. The study also shows that 3D CMBM employing prototype sands can not satisfy a series of fundamental similarity of sediment movement.
