BG-MODEL PREDICTING THREE-DIMENSIONAL BEACH CHANGES BASED ON BAGNOLD’S CONCEPT AND APPLICATIONS

A new predictive model, the “BG-model, developed by Serizawa et al. (2006) based on Bagnold’s concept was applied for predicting beach changes caused by the obstruction of longshore sand transport and those triggered by the construction of wave-sheltering structures. Topographic features obtained in experiments were reproduced well by the numerical simulation. The model was also applied to the prediction of real beach changes on the Toban coast. Measured and predicted results were in good agreement, and the appropriateness of the model was verified. The model was further applied for investigating erosion on the nearby coast triggered by the repeated dredging of the anchorage ground in a port. It was shown that the dredged sand must be returned to the nearby coast to prevent erosion.
