INTEGRATED MODELING FOR FORMATION AND CHARACTERISTICS OF SEDIMENT LAYER IN TOKYO BAY
This paper presents a modeling for the formation of sediment layer in Tokyo Bay together with an analysis of its characteristics over the time scale of several years. The model consists of hydrodynamic, wave hindcasting, bed shear stress and multi-class sediment sub-models in order to simulate the sediment associated processes both in water body and bed layer. The present model accounts for sediment transport, settling, deposition, resuspension and burial sedimentation processes, and it is capable of reproducing the accumulation of bed sediments. Following the concept of multi-class particle model, the bed characteristics, such as the spatial distribution of particle size, the water content ratio and the thickness of active bed layer, were analyzed. Moreover, numerical experiments were carried out to describe the mechanism of sediment accumulation observed in the field.
