COASTAL SEDIMENT TRANSPORT INDUCED BY WIND, WAVES AND CURRENTS AND THE CALCULATION FOR THE SUDDEN SILTATION IN OUTER CHANNEL OF THREE MAJOR PORTS IN THE BOHAI BAY
It is simply introduced the formulas developed by authors for calculating the sediment transport induced by the coexisting action of wind, waves and currents. Authors also give the method of channel siltation calculation. These formulas could be applied to the coasts of sand, silts and clay (especially fluid-mud).However, sediment flocculation velocities have to use instead of the general settling velocities when the diameter d50 is less than 0.03mm. For fluid–mud carrying capacity and sediment transport, formulas are appropriate to the case of d50<0.01mm.Sudden siltation in navigation channel of the Huanghua Port (silty coast) had been calculated with 12% discrepancy compared with natural measured shown in reference(Luo ,2004). The outer channel of Jintang Port has counted the same sudden siltation during the same period of gale wind on October 2003. As to the Tianjin Port’s channel, the sediment is clay and the formula for fluid-mud has been used. Its siltation amount is less and siltation thickness lighter because the fetch generated waves is shorter and the depth in the way of fetch is shallow. The fluid-mud indicate the less siltation presence in navigation channels. Results of calculation are much close to those measured in prototype in the Bohai Bay.
