STUDY ON THE DRIVING PROCESS OF COMPOSITE PILE

Composite piles, especially piles of the combination of large diameter concrete pipe and steel pipe, are used widely in harbor and bridge project. But in terms of driving process, many questions come out. Which kind of pile is easier to be driven, a composite pile or a uniform pile. What kind of combination of composite pile can be more quickly and economically driven to a certain depth? Given site condition and diving equipment, what are the better choices of steel pipe length and wall thickness? All theses questions are tried to be discussed in this paper. We start from the wave equation theory, a set of equation are deducted to show the driving process of composite piles, some conclusions come out showing the way to achieve a better pile driving process. Secondly, we choose another tool to simulate the driving process of composite piles, a well-known software called GRLWEAP is used. GRLWEAP is released by GRL Engineers, Inc., which is a world famous company in the deep foundation study. The simulation shows similar results as that of wave equation theory.
