SHIP IMPACT PROTECTION DESIGN FOR GWANGYANG BRIDGE

The GwangYang suspension bridge will be constructed at GwangYang container port, which has the most heavily traffic waterway in Korea. Therefore, ship impact protection design is necessary for the safety of bridge pier and its foundation. This paper describes the numerical and centrifuge model test for the optimum design of ship impact protection for the bridge. To determine the allowable capacity of protection and pier during ship collision, the scaled model test using beam centrifuge and the finite element analysis using ANSYS/LS-DYNA program were performed.
