A NEW TYPE OF LOADING MONITORING SYSTEM

1. Introduction As a large-scale dredging equipment ,the trailing suction hopper dredger generally operates in vast water areas far from the coast, estuaries and harbors and is therefore subject to the composite effects of wind, waves and currents while the variation of the dredger’s shipping weight, in turn, will sensitively affect the hull draft, especially when operating at night or in big storms. In such situations, to ensure safe operation the crew should at all times be clear about the draft at all the points of the ship, its inclination, the distribution of slurry in the mud hold and measure whatever is under deck so as to avoid or prevent overloading and uneven weight arrangement in the hold. In addition, if such tendency curves of and data on the cubic meter of dry earth, the loading capacity and draft as well as the hull weight itself in the slurry hold are obtained in real time in the process of operation, the information will be of great help to the crew to improve their loading efficiency by accurately determining the optimum loading time and loading capacity. At the same time, accurate hold measurement can provide information to guide the crew to accurately grasp the optimum loading time and loading amount to improve their loading efficiency. At the same time, accurate measurement of loading will provide an effective means of monitoring to the environment quality and sewage dredging departments. For these reasons we have developed a new type of practical loading monitoring system by referring to the Handbook on Marine Completion and Shipping , drawing on the experience in similar equipment made at home and abroad, and making use of such advanced technologies of the computer, automatic instrumentation and a self-adaptive algorithm model for the hold capacity state as well as a scheme for “single point draft + hull trim and heel determination.
