OBSERVATIONS ON THE LOCAL PROCESS FOR THE INTEGRATED COASTAL MANAGEMENT IN MORIYE BAY, OITA PREFECTURE, JAPAN

The cooperation among various players is important for the Integrated Coastal Management (ICM). One of the important issues to be discussed is how and by whom such cooperation among various players with different interests should be or could be coordinated. At Moriye bay, Oita Pref., local residents organized the Moriye Bay Conference in order to discuss its coast defense, environmental conservation and regional improvement. Their process to orga nize the conference provides a good example for ICM. We analyze the way that the local residences organized the conference, to bring out the beneficial findings for ICM.
