A Study on Hot Metal Circuiting Flow in Hearth
One of the critical factors on long campaign of blast furnace is the erosion in hearth and bottom. Circuiting flow of hot metal in hearth is one of reasons for the garlic-shaped erosion in hearth. So the study on hot metal circuiting is of great importance to the long campaign of hearth and bottom. In this paper, with the water model experiment, the effects of the depth of salamander, coke-free space, void fraction of coke, mass rate of tapping, etc. on the flow of hot metal in hearth are studied. According to the RT in different points and flow field, it is found that deepening the salamander, reducing the dead-man (coke-bed), enlarging the coke- free space, increasing the void fraction, or decreasing the mass rate of tapping is good for weakening the circuiting of hot metal, keeping the activity of hearth and prolonging the campaign life of hearth. The conclusion that for the operation of big blast furnace measuring the hot strength of coke such as tumbler index and melting loss reaction is needed not only in charging, but also in the slag and hot metal of 1500-1600℃, is mentioned.
