Problems of EAF Steelmaking in China
The development of EAF steelmaking in China is studied in this paper. Because the scrap and the electric power are in short supply, the difficulty of EAF steelmaking is that the steel cost is higher. And this has resulted the ratio of EAF steel decreasing year after year, as the second similar case since 1990 in China. There are three main means to deal with the problem, the first one is producing high added value steel, the second one is shortening the tap to tap time and decreasing cost by adding a part of hot metal and blowing more oxygen into the EAF; and the third one is guiding the steelmaking plants to carry out the second round investment to develop the modern electric arc furnace.
