Application of PZT Impedance Technique for Health Monitoring in Civil Engineering Structures

In this paper the basic principle and the recent development of the piezoelectric impedance method for structural damage detection in civil engineering field have been reviewed. Subsequently, the recent research on damage detection of structures, based on piezoelectric impedance technique in HUST has also been presented, which includes the tests of several cracked steel beams, curing monitoring of concrete blocks, detection of loosened bolts of a steel frame, crack identification in concrete beams, and cracking monitoring of RC beams. Finally, future research areas of the piezoelectric impedance technique have been pointed out.
