Vibration Mitigation of A Cable Using Shape Memory Alloy Damper
This paper examines the effectiveness of shape memory alloy (SMA) damper for mitigating the cable vibration. The developed SMA damper is introduced, and the vibration equations for a cable-SMA damper system, are described and applied for the vibration mitigation analysis of the cable. Taking the reduced model of Runyang Cable-Bridge as the test platform, the experiments are carried out to investigate vibration-mitigated effect of SMA damper on the test cable. The results show that the vibration decay rate of the test cable with SMA damper is much faster than that of without SMA damper. The experimental and numerical results illustrate that the developed SMA damper can effectively reduce the cable vibration.
