Diagnostic Evaluation of In-Service Railway Concrete Bridge with Over-weighed loading
In this paper there are 12 railway bridges which were built about 50 years ago and had to transport 2000kN overweight loads. A utter field test was successfully implemented on site to evaluate whether the old bridges can suffer the overweight loads. The methods which rely on the logical combination of visual inspection results such as foil strain gauges, ultrasonic scanning, accelerometers, static test, dynamic test system and related nondestructive test ways et al. were jointly adopted to assess and classify the residual life and reliability of the bridges. Base on in-situ test data the working- condition of the bridges were analyzed according to the flexibility-plasticity theory. The field test results of strain, stress and frequency were compared with the calculation results. The residual capacity of the every bridge and feasibility of carrying the overweight equipment were evaluated. A plan was developed for the owner to make a critical decision of permanent maintaining, temporary strengthening or monitoring and inspection frequent to these bridges.
