Technology Study of Tunnel On-line Health Monitoring Based on Fiber Bragg Grating Strain Sensor

Optical fibre sensor is a novel detecting technology, which is widely used in rock and soil, construction, structural health, monitoring environment and so on. The principle and method of fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensor inspection are analysed in this paper. According to the increasing development and requirement of tunnel construction engineering long testing, a kind of FBG sensor in diameter 22mm anchor bar is put forward, designed, and fabricated to tunnel monitoring, because electromagnetism sensor is not employed stably in rock and soil engineering monitoring. The axial strain of anchor bar can be detected by FBG on anchor bar easily. The finite element analysis of anchor bar operated on force in tunnel is shown to describe the principle of anchor bar testing. FBG anchor bar sensor is used in lab and highway tunnel. The FBG experimental and practical results are both good. Meanwhile, the strain gauge test results are given and contrasted with FBG test in tunnel strain monitoring. It is proved that FBG anchor bar sensor is of high precision on measurement, good anti-interference ability, long- term stability, simple structure, online real-time monitoring application of rock and soil, and so on.
