Characterization Extraction from Waveform Acoustic Emission Signals in Prestressed Concrete Structures
The acoustic emission (AE) signals produced by the damage in prestressed concrete structures possess variety and complex characteristics. In order to extract damage characterization from these signals, so as to find out defect formations and failures in the structure, experiments are conducted on some representative concrete members under loads, and the signal processing method of wavelet analysis is adopted to analyze the waveform. The waveform AE signals of a series of prestressed concrete beams loaded in three points bending until failure are recorded by waveform AE system. Corresponding to various mechanism of AE during failure of the specimens, several sub-experiments, such as bending of low-strength concrete beam, tension of the prestressed steel wire or steel bar, and pulling of the prestressed steel wire or steel bar out of a concrete cube, are carried out. Finally, the recorded waveform AE signals are analyzed by wavelet analysis, the characteristic information of failure process at critical state detected, and the foreboding characterization of crack destabilization also found. The study shows that waveform AE. signals can be used to disclose the characteristics of the different damage levels of prestressed concrete beams under loading in real time, and thus provides essential information and important research basis for structural health monitoring.
