Temperature Sensitivity of the Vibration-Based Damage Identification Methods
This paper presents the study on the temperature sensitivity of several vibration-based damage identification methods. The temperature effect is considered as the change in modulus of elasticity of the material. This study, based on the computer- simulated results of beam type structure, reports that the temperature effect can affect the computed damage indices. Both the damage localization and quantification can be affected in presence of the temperature effect which can lead the damage detection unreliable. Among the studied methods, change in flexibility method is most affected by the temperature effect at low damage level. Finally, a modified approach has been proposed to improve the damage detection technique.
