Testing and Reinforcing Old Arch Bridges
The current status of bridges in China and the necessity to conduct feasible bridge inspection and assessment have been presents. Taking Qidaohe Bridge as an example, an approach to inspect, evaluate, reinforce and assess bridges together with loading test has been discussed. The contents and methodologies about the bridge inspection of a double-curved arch bridge are introduced in detail. On the basis of the inspection and assessment, the appropriate reinforcement/improvement measures are applied with consideration of load features of double-curved arch bridge. The proposed approach has been applied to skillfully solve the difficulties regarding Qidaohe Bridge improvement. Static loading test and operation after bridge improvement show that the applied methodology has been successful.
