Random Earthquake Response and Reliability Analysis of Base-Isolated Structure (Part 2): Reliability Analysis and Numerical Example
In this paper, a practical and simplified method for evaluating the seismic reliability of base isolated structure based on computed stochastic response is presented. In accordance with the deformation failure mechanism, the limit states of superstructure and isolation layer are defined respectively. The maximum interstorey drift is taken as the capacity index of superstructure and the maximum deformation of isolation layer relative to the base is adopted as the capacity index of isolation layer. On the basis of the first passage criterion, the limit state conditional probability of each storey of superstructure and isolation layer are determined, respectively. The reliability model of a multistorey base-isolated building is considered as a series connection model, and assuming that the failures of stories are independent, the conditional reliability of the overall base-isolated system is measured. Finally, a six-storey frame structure with base isolation is given for numerical illustration of this method.
