Industrial Tourism in Sake Brewery Area in Kyoto
Fushimi district is located in the southern part of Kyoto, and occupies about 12% of the total production of sake (Japanese rice wine). This district has unique character as a complex of brewery town, historical town, and dormitory town. Although it is too near from the central part of Kyoto with so many world-famous tourist spots, Fushimi has developed as industrial tourism area since the latter half of the 1980s, mainly by the effort of inhabitants, the boom in popular TV dramas, and the change of tourism itself seeking for silence, relaxation, and good old days.
