Limit load of mismatched welded joint containing cracks

Limit load of a tensile panel was analyzed in this paper with a mismatched welded joint containing crack. A group of slip line solutions under plane strain condition was derived. The closed form solution of limit load was obtained for different welded groove and cracked heat affect zone (HAZ) with different mismatched ratio. Limit load analysis was also performed by using the finite element (FE) method in consideration of the real geometry of weld. Comparisons were carried out on the results from the closed form solution and FE analysis. Results indicate that limit loads were strongly influenced by the weld groove and mismatched ratio.
