The plastic limit load of elbows under in-plane bending moments
The plastic limit load of elbows under in-plane closing and opening bending moments is discussed in this paper. In the research, finite element analysis (FEA) and experimental verification have been performed. The results of FEA show that the limit load of elbows under in-plane bending moments increases with the increasing wall thickness or the increasing bend factor of elbows. The limit opening bending moment is bigger than the limit closing one. The ratio of limit opening bending moment to the limit closing one decreases with the increasing thickness or the increasing bend radius.
