Fouling characteristics of sintered porous surface tubes for heat exchangers in sodium chloride solution

The characteristics of sodium chloride (NaCl) crystallization fouling on sintered copper-nickel porous surface tubes (SCPST) and smooth surface tubes (SST) with copper-nickel base for heat exchangers were investigated systematically through solving the critical fouling concentration and the critical recirculation rate of NaCl with the electrical heating. Experimental results showed that SCPST had better capability on anti-fouling than that of SST when the concentration of NaCl was less than 29%. Critical fouling concentration gradually decreased with the increase of heat flux. It was found that SCPST wont foul when the NaCl solution concentration was below the critical value. Finally, the relationship between flux and critical recirculation rate has been obtained by the regression analysis based on experimental data.
