The research on failure of pressing die
The pressing die, used for formation of sprayer material, was failed in form of surface crack after used for a short time. In this paper, the microstructure, mechanical property and fracture mode of the die were studied with optical microscope, scan electronic microscope and micro-hardness instrument. The results showed that the microstructure of die material was composed normally of pearlite and ferrite of carbon steel 45 and was little higher hardness which suggested work hardening in the steel. The fracture mode of the die was mainly plastic, with some fatigue. The conclusion was that lack of steel strength was main reason for the dies early failure.
